Ana S. Moita holds a PhD and a MSc in Mechanical Engineering is a Post-Doc researcher at the Multiphase Transport Phenomena Laboratory in the Center for Innovation, Technology & Policy Research, IN+, at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. Her research addresses the experimental and theoretical descritpion of liquid-solid interfacial phenomena on complex surfaces, with application to cooling systems, energy conversion and biomedical devices.Ana S. Brief Bio
Katja Bühler is Scientific Director of the VRVis Research Center in Vienna, Austria. She completed her studies in Mathematics at KIT, Karlsruhe, Germany and holds a PhD in Computer Science from TU Wien, Austria. In 2003 she became head of the Biomedical Image Informatics Group at VRVis. She is member of the management board of Austrian Bioimaging and associate editor of Computers and Graphics, the Visual Computer and Frontiers in Bioinformatics. Katja’s scientific roots are in reliable computing, numerics and geometry processing. Today's focus of her research is on the development of highly efficient methods to provide access to information encoded in biomedical images with the aim to accelerate image-based decision making. For this purpose, she is fusing expertise in image processing, machine and deep learning, high performance computing, data mining, visualization and human computer interaction to novel visual computing solutions for medicine and life science. Research results of her group received numerous scientific awards and resulted in several patents. The software emerged from the groups research is helping radiologists, radiotherapists and surgeons to cope with multi-modal images and diagnostic tasks in their daily clinical routine. The e-science platform Brain* addresses the urgent need to manage and exploit image intense data collections and accelerates multi-omics and image-based research of neuroscientists. ... More >>

Brief Bio
Hesham H. Ali is a Professor of Computer Science and the director of the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) Bioinformatics Core Facility. He served as the Lee and Wilma Seemann Distinguished Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology at UNO between 2006 and 2021. He has published numerous articles in various IT areas, including scheduling, distributed systems, data analytics, wireless networks, and Bioinformatics. He has published two books in scheduling and graph algorithms, and several book chapters in Bioinformatics. He has been serving as the PI or Co-PI of several projects funded by NSF, NIH and Nebraska Research Initiative in the areas of data analytics, wireless networks and Bioinformatics. He has also been leading a Research Group that focuses on developing innovative computational approaches to model complex biomedical systems and analyze big bioinformatics data. The research group is currently developing several next generation big data analytics tools for analyzing large heterogeneous biological and health data associated with various biomedical research areas, particularly projects associated with infectious diseases, microbiome studies, early childhood development and aging research. Dr. Ning Deng is an associate professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science, Zhejiang University, and an assistant researcher of UCLA-BD2K National Bigdata Research Center of USA, mainly engaged in the research of intelligent intervention technology for chronic diseases and health management. From 2007 to 2010, he engaged in research work in the BD2K National Bigdata Research Center of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As the main designer of the NIH key research program project "Knowledgebase of Cardiac Proteome Atlas (CopaKB)", he built the largest knowledge base of cardiac proteome profiling and network information analysis platform in the world, and won the "Young Scholar Academic Award of International Human Proteome Organization (HUPO)". Since 2012, Dr. Deng has presided over and participated in a number of National Key R&D Program Projects and National Natural Science Foundation projects of China. A home-based rehabilitation method for COPD patients using portable equipment has been authorized as patent to Dr. Deng. The closed-loop management information system for COPD and the eHealth intervention path technology of chronic disease have been applied in the large-scale application demonstration project of chronic disease sustainable management in Ningxia Province and the regional chronic disease management cooperation network in Zhejiang Province. Ioanna Chouvarda studied Electrical and Computer engineering, and completed her PhD on cardiac system complexity in the School of Medicine (2001), at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She is Associate Professor in Medical Informatics and Biomedical Data Analysis, Lab of Computing, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Imaging technologies in the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences AUTH. She has been a collaborating researcher with CERTH, visiting researcher at VTT Finland and Polytechnic School of Milan. She teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses around biomedical data management and analysis, also oriented to interdisciplinary groups, and has supervised numerous Msc and PhD students. She has been actively involved in biomedical research for more than 25 years. Within the Lab, she leads the BiOasys team with key objectives the development of data analysis & data-driven methods, and their application in connected health technologies and systems medicine. Federico Cabitza, MEng, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy) where he teaches Human-Computer Interaction and where he coordinates the research activities of the MUDI Lab (Modelling Uncertainty, Decisions and Interaction). Since 2016 he has also had a research appointment with the IRCCS Orthopaedics Institute Galeazzi in Milano (Italy) and more recently with San Raffaele Hospital.
