Short Bio
Lorenzo Martini is a post-doctoral researcher in Computer Engineering at the Department of Computer and Control Engineering of Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He received his Ph.D. in Computer and Control Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2025. His research lies at the intersection of bioinformatics and computational biology, with a primary focus on single-cell multi-modal sequencing analysis. His work aims to model the impact of transcriptional regulation on gene expression by integrating transcriptomic data with genomic and epigenomic information. More recently, he has expanded his research toward computational neuroscience, combining computational biology and electrophysiology to investigate the relationship between neuronal activity states and their genomic profiles.

Short Bio
Gianluca Amprimo is a post-doctoral researcher in Computer Engineering at the Department of Computer and Control Engineering of Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He received his Ph.D. in Computer and Control Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2025. He is working on Human Pose Estimation (HPE) using Deep Learning, and Machine Learning for the automatic assessment and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Parkinson’s disease). He also develops tele-rehabiliation solutions for elderly, exploiting gamification paradigms (exergames and serious games) as an Associate Researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR-IEIIT). He is currently an IEEE young professional and a member of the IEEE Engineering Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).

SCOPE
The integration of heterogeneous biomedical data is becoming essential for understanding complex biological mechanisms and improving healthcare. Combining multi-omics, molecular and cellular data, medical imaging, electronic health records, physiological signals, and other complementary data modalities provides unprecedented opportunities to uncover biological insights, identify disease mechanisms, and support precision medicine. However, realizing this potential requires reproducible, interoperable, and reusable computational solutions capable of integrating diverse data sources into coherent analytical frameworks. This special session aims to bring together researchers developing innovative software, workflows, pipelines, and computational methods for multimodal data integration across bioinformatics and health informatics. Particular emphasis is placed on FAIR and interoperable software ecosystems, reproducible computational analyses, and applications that bridge fundamental biological research with clinical and translational medicine
