Brief Bio
Fabio Galbusera, engineer, is the director of the Laboratory of Biological Structures Mechanics. He received his Master degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy and the PhD at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics, Center of Musculoskeletal Research Ulm, Germany. His main research interests are the biomechanics of the spine, the use of numerical models for its investigation as well as spinal imaging, about which he published more than 100 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS), of the Spine Society of Europe (Eurospine), of AOSpine, and is currently part of the Editorial Boards of Journal of Biomechanics, European Spine Journal and of European Radiology Experimental.

SCOPE
Deep learning is revolutionizing several industrial and research fields like computer vision, autonomous driving, natural language processing, and speech recognition. Deep learning is already having a major impact in radiology, diagnostics, and many medical other applications in which the availability of automated solution may benefit the accuracy and repeatability of the execution of critical tasks. For this Special Session, we invite papers about the development and the use of deep learning tools in the specific field of musculoskeletal radiology, including but not limited to automated diagnosis, detection and localization of lesions or anatomical landmarks, segmentation, scoring features such as degenerative phenotypes or fractures, as well as ethical issues.
Topics of Interest
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Computer-aided Diagnosis of Musculoskeletal Disorders
- Detection and Localization of Lesions and Interest Hotspots
- Grading and Scoring Degenerative and Traumatic Phenotypes
- Measurement of Relevant Distances and Angles
- 3D Information from 2D Images
- Segmentation
- Ethical Issues
