Scope and Topics
Rapid Prototyping, Rapid Tooling and Reverse Engineering technologies allow the rapid manufacturing of prototypes that prove to be very helpful in the different stages of product development processes.
Last 15 years have seen a great evolution of these technologies, all of which have become of great importance for the Medical Device Industry and related research tasks.
The global biodevice development process, from validating conceptual designs to carrying out "in vivo" and "in vitro" trials, is specially helped by the use of such technologies, due to the several specific problems related to interacting with biological systems and the need of validating each design decision.

Workshop pretends to increase relation between researchers in all aspects linked to medical and biological applications of Rapid Prototyping technologies and should cover tasks related with:
. Rapid Prototyping for developing biodevices.
. Rapid Tooling for developing biodevices.
. Reverse Engineering for developing biodevices.
. Combining CAD-CAE-CAM and RP technologies.
  . Medical and biological applications:
      - Surgical planning.
      - Training models.
      - Personalized implants.
      - Advances in odonthology.
      - Tissue engineering.
. Benefits of prototyping: "In vitro" and "in vivo" trials.
  . Biocompatibility Issues:
      - Combination with "CVD" and "PVD" technologies.
      - Prototyping directly biocompatible implants.
. Micro and nanoapplications of Rapid Prototyping.
  . Prototyping of biological structures.

Current work on these fields entails problems related to the development of new technologies, application of new materials for prototyping and optimising the response and behaviour of final prototypes, all of which could be treated in depth in the "RAPID-Bio" Workshop.
