Special Session
Special Session on
Engineering and Fabrication of Biocompatible and Bioinspired Materials
 - BENEFICIAL 2020

24 - 26 February, 2020 - Valletta, Malta

Within the 13th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies - BIOSTEC 2020

CHAIR

Saibal Mitra
Missouri State University
United States

Brief Bio
Saibal Mitra is a faculty in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University (MSU) located in Springfield, MO, USA. Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Mitra was a faculty at University of Tulsa located in Tulsa, OK, USA. Mitra received his undergraduate degree from University of Kolkata, M.S from Clemson University and Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He was a post-doctoral research associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then at University of Delaware.

SCOPE

Nature has created, through evolution, robust and sustainable solutions to myriad challenges. This has inspired researchers to engineer biomimetic interactive materials for industrial, medicinal and environmental applications. The focus of BENEFICIAL will be on designing principles and functional materials inspired by nature. The session will highlight engineering approaches (growth, characterization and properties), biocompatibility and functionality of designed materials. However, the scope of bioinspired materials goes beyond the extent of these domains. Therefore, the critical aim of BENEFICIAL is to establish an international, interdisciplinary network (forum) of scientists from fields such as materials science and engineering, physics, biology, chemistry and medicine to discuss current state-of-art and future directions of bioinspired materials.

Topics of Interest
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Materials Growth
  • Biomimetic Designing
  • Interactive Materials
  • Biomedical Materials
  • Bioinspired Devices
  • Boinspired Assemblies
  • Peptide and Protein Materials
  • Bioinspired Synthetic Polymers
  • Hybrid/Photonic Materials
