Abstract: Investigation of the mechanisms of neuroplasticity and detection of changes in the connectome in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis is relevant for the development of new preventive, therapeutic strategies and prediction of disease outcomes. Leech therapy (hirudotherapy, leeching) is one of the most well-known and studied methods of complementary medicine, with proven pathogenetic mechanisms, widely and justifiably used in patients with vascular diseases. Patients received a leech therapy course (10 sessions). All patients underwent resting state functional MRI, complaints and neurological status were evaluated before and after the course of leeching. After a leech therapy course, patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis noted a significant improvement in their condition (reduction of headaches, dizziness, noise in the head and ears, optical and vestibular disorders, visual impairment). The connectivity of the main structures of the brain increased, which is an important morphofunctional indicator of improved brain function. The connectome study provides new approaches to understand the integrative brain function in health and disease, and to assess the effectiveness of the treatment.

Title:

Clinical Value of Functional MRI in the Diagnosis of Cognitive Disorders in Patients with Arteriovenous Malformations

Abstract: Cognitive impairment that develops in acute and chronic cerebral pathology, including arteriovenous malformations, is one of the most frequent and prognostically unfavorable complications. Late detection of severe forms of cognitive impairment, including dementia, leads to a lack of early preventive and therapeutic correction, a decrease in the effectiveness of rehabilitation and the quality of life of patients with AVM. A comprehensive assessment of cognitive impairment may be a diagnostic criterion for assessing the severity of neurological symptoms at the endovascular treatment stages. A significant contribution to the study of the pathophysiology of CN formation in patients with AVM is made by fMRI, providing knowledge about the functional organization of the brain. The results of functional mapping of the brain in 11 patients with arteriovenous malformations are presented. The structure of cognitive impairment was evaluated using advanced neuropsychological testing and structural-functional restructuring in the cerebral cortex using fMRI. To obtain images, an echoplanar tomography technique using BOLD contrast was used. The data obtained indicate complex neurodynamic disorders of the cognitive sphere in patients with AVM in several areas of both the right and left hemisphere: dorsal, ventral and medial front-striatal thalamic and fronto-parietal cerebellar networks.

Title:

Electroencephalography Registration of Laser Acupuncture Action on Children with Autism Disorder

Authors:

Anastasia I. Knyazkova, Polina V. Shulmina, Alice A. Samarinova, Yury V. Kistenev and Alexey V. Borisov

Abstract: Laser action on acupuncture points is an alternative to traditional acupuncture. We used red semiconductor laser diodes with a wavelength of 650 nm. Three acupuncture points (GV20, LI4, P6) were selected to relieve headaches and reduce anxiety in the study. EEG data had been obtained from two siblings, one of whom is without pathologies of the nervous system (8 years), and the second has a diagnosis of autism (10 years). A significant increase in the total activity of the brain for ASD patients up to a value close to the brain activity of healthy patients was registered.

Abstract: The problems of processing and analysis synchronous records endo- and epicardial electrograms and surface ECG signals, detection of ventricular late potentials of patients with ventricular tachyarrhythmia and coronary heart disease by using spatial and temporal signal accumulation algorithms, correlation of temporal and spectral characteristics of late potentials with the dynamics and localization of dangerous heart disorders are considered.

Abstract: During the clinical monitoring of the human heart activity the main goal is to detect heart arrhythmias and capture their precursors as early as possible. And we decided to apply 2 seconds gliding window for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias recognition. All types of arrhythmias were grouped into six classes depending on their danger to the human life. And these classes were separated in two parts: threatening humans’ life and others. As a classification features Fourier transform with spectrum up to 15 Hz were picked. In this paper we describe the formed dataset of ECG fragments and compare efficiency of different simple classification algorithms for this two-class problem. The following algorithms were tested: k-nearest neighbours, nearest convex hull algorithm, nearest mean and SVMs with different kernels. The results appeared to be sufficiently appropriate.

Title:

Machine Learning Possibilities for Evaluation of Arterial Hypertension Treatment Efficiency in Case Study

Authors:

Vladimir S. Kublanov, Yan E. Kazakov and Anton Y. Dolganov

Abstract: The paper aims to discuss questions concerning application of the machine learning based decisions in the area of the clinical diagnostics. In previous works it was shown that it is possible to develop a decision support system based on the most indicative parameters of the short-term heart rate variability signals for the express diagnosing of the arterial hypertension using methods of machine learning. This paper show results of the case-study for analysis of the machine learning based results for evaluating duration of the treatment using the device for the neuro-electrostimulation. Comparative analysis of the results of the quadratic discriminant analysis application and instrumental measurements highlights concern regarding using of a single method in such complex task as a clinical process. Possible limitations and advantages of each method were discussed.

On Some Possibilities of using Microwave Radiometry in the Analysis of Fluctuation Processes in Brain Tissue

Authors:

Vladimir S. Kublanov, Mikhail V. Babich and Anton Y. Dolganov

Abstract: The article presents pilot study of the fluctuation processes in the brain tissues. Experimental setup consists of the simultaneous record of microwave radiation in frequency range (3.4-4.2) GHz and heart rate variability signals. As the functional load the neuro-electrostimulation was used. The preliminary results have shown that the changes of the fluctuation process in brain tissues during the neuro-electrostimulation depends on the changes in the autonomic nervous system, as evaluated by heart rate variability analysis.

Possibilities of Applying Non-invasive Multichannel Electrical Stimulation Technology for Treatment Neuropsychiatric Diseases

Authors:

Timur S. Petrenko, Vladimir S. Kublanov, Konstantin J. Retyunskiy and Roman A. Sherstobitov

Abstract: The article discusses some of the mechanisms of clinical effects when using the technology of non-invasive multichannel electrical stimulation of the neural formations of the neck in patients with diseases of the central nervous system of the neuropsychiatric profile. When implementing this technology in all clinical examples, "SYMPATHOCOR-01" device was used, which provides stimulation of neural formations of the neck using a spatially distributed field of monopolar current pulses.
